site update (cont.)

it’s time to bite the bullet and make a new blog post about this site update that i’ve been screwing up LOL. the previous one took me three days to write because it was documenting those three days. transferring my site into hugo is … difficult to say the least.

i created yet another quickstart to test out the documentation and have figured out (mostly) exactly where to put my assets for to hugo to pull onto my about page (look. there’s assets folder in root and another in themes but there’s also page bundles in themes > content. GAH.)

im also noticing that my generate_date.html shortcode is generating the current date which is and is not what i want. i think that’s something i might do for the website itself? like its September 20, 2025 and you’re here. to display the date in the content itself, i will simply… type it out. it became too much work figuring out how to automate it (really? a partial to put date? and other half-assed thoughts i had about it)

i didn’t exactly learn Hugo Pipes but i was able to use resource.Get to pull everything in each graphics folder (blinkies, stamps, buttons, and stickers are subfolders) so that was nice. it reduced lines in the about.html by a lot and it looks cleaner to me so im happy about that. still don’t know what pipes do or what they mean. its like im learning how to read for the first time.

FUCKING SYNTAX!!!

^ this webmaster learned for the first time the difference between /folder/item.format and folder/item.format. the pre-slash for parent folders. and/or folders higher in the hierarchy?? whatever. im happy to have my graphics go where they oughto without duplicating these folders to go everywhere. am i truly ready to deploy? i tried that TWICE already and there were issues each time, but i did just go into the public folder to check.
