weekly roundup
September 19, 2025
life update: today, i conclude my first week at my new job! the first two days were a bit awkward. i had hours at two different locations so i had to do some traveling and one time i totally screwed up clocking in (forgot to switch sites on my work iPad) (i think it’s nuts that I have a work anything). i was reviewing policy and my job expectation is 90% productivity. can i do it? probably, but it’s going to take me a few to figure out time management. i like my coworkers for the most part, although i definitely have a preference for location. both gyms available are really cold lol.
bed bug situation is finally sorted out and we got the all clear to move boxes soon!!! we went a week without hot water because the water heater wouldn’t turn on, but thankfully our landlord was able to get it replaced once he saw for himself that the indicator light was in fact not on.
other shit went down, small emergencies that stretched out into a long week, but we’re making it out.
cooking update: my gf and i got to stop by the weekly farmer’s market the other day and we cooked with the goods last night! i was the prep cook working on the mise en place while my gf managed the stovetop situation. i bought a culinary torch the other week because i wanted to make creme brulees and we ended up using it for corn on the cob.

pictured: leftover mac and cheese from wednesday night’s dinner outing, rainbow chard cooked in fat rendered from bacon jowls, and torched corn. the bread pieces come from the sourdough which i toasted in the air fryer.
the sourdough also came from the farmers’ market! it was pretty pricey so we’re going to continue with our retail grocers (there’s also a sustainable refill market walking distance away that i want to check out).
our haul:
+ “gourmet” garlic
+ lemon rosemarry jelly
+ jalapeno jelly
+ eggs
+ green beans
+ red onions
+ x5 ears of corn
+ cherry tomatoes
+ rainbow chard
+ acorn squash!!! (i can make my plant-based, but not vegan mac and cheese!!!)
+ x2 sourdough breads of different flavors (my gf bought them so i have no idea which)
+ cabbage (we watched the smosh episode of gastronauts on dropout and im so intrigued by max’s cabbage dish AND gruel!!)
+ bacon jowls
+ pork chops
+ we signed up for milk delivery which will start next week
music update: oh man oh man.

i’ve had spotify for a long time but for a good chunk of that, ive contemplated transitioning to other streaming services such as tidal, or going smaller with mp3 players. a few years ago i bought a cassette player (mostly as a music making tool). my gf and i also have a record player but no speakers for the audio. that’s going to be one of our bigger purchases once we get settled down.
as a child, i used to peruse the cd collection at my local library and burn mixes for the car. thank you disney child stars.
hobby update: frankly, my mind has been SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO occupied with moving this site to hugo, that’s all i did this week. like i go to work i come home i nap i eat dinner i code until 3am i sleep i go to work. ridiculous. in grief, i spent too long looking at the doc page for pagination and other examples to not understand a single thing. giving up on that for now. instead of dedicating time towards the features, i want to work on expanding the contents of my website.
i haven’t posted much (or at all!) about it, but fieldnotes had gotten me journaling and i want to make a shrine dedicated to it! for most of my life, i tried to keep a journal whether it be a diary, planner, habit tracker, etc, etc. i always get really intimidated by the size of the journals i chose to buy and the layouts i would brainstorm (especially for reading journals whoof). while pricely, fieldnotes are small enough for me to carry around in my pocket and i’m able to complete them!!! (riv my diary 2018-2023. even collaging the cover didn’t entice me to open it). r/fieldnuts allows in/out posts where people share their completed notebook and the one they’re starting. it’s sooooo cute!!!
