life update: well pretty much all of the boxes have been unpacked! the next step is getting rid of them. i’ve given a few to my dad to store in his attic, but we still have a bunch left. lowkey i want to recycle them instead of keeping them around to use much, much later. we have tables set up for our studio !!! gf installed hanging shelves too. we’re thinking of returning the futon we got the first week here (should’ve gone with the air mattress first instead of trying our luck). the seat depth is non-existent and it’s not very comfy to sit on. cant read on it. cant play guitar for shit.
work update: unexpectedly had 3 days off from work d/t low census. cool… i want that money though. tomorrow im going to a diff location and the sessions are doubled from what im used to. this is gonna be a learning experience… time will pass.
cooking update: first things first, i found out that the previous tenant was a PRIVATE CHEF… that’s so badass. i love cooking in this kitchen too. i find myself cooking a lot more now and we STILL have leftover jowls!!!
this was my first time ever making creme brulee after doing research on it for my fanfic. LOL. surprisingly easy. next time, i’ll do it with the broiler instead of my culinary torch. yes i bought a torch exactly for this. the other post, i had mentioned wanting to try braised cabbage, inspired by the smosh gastronauts episode on dropout.tv.
well here it is! i totally combined two techniques bc what i had searched was “braised cabbage recipe” and watched youtube shorts on how to roast cabbage–which is a different thing! i made use of the red onions and bacon jowls from the farmer’s market haul.
i also tried making potato gnocchi last night without following a specific recipe and to nobody’s surprise but my own, my beautifully shaped gnocchi IMMEDIATELY dissolved in the boiling water. i was cooking a sauce for it at the same time which became super loaded mashed potatoes which became soup which became stew when i added macroni pasta to it.
i’ll be writing a more in-depth post about my culinary journey.
music update: gave in and listened to japanese breakfast beyond the two songs i knew. i know of her and i know about crying in h mart and i was stubbornly avoiding all of it because they’re glimpses into one of my futures. jubilee is a great album, however. she said it was about joy.
my favorite track: kokomo, in, i think the strings are so beautiful!!!
my gf and i stopped by the thrift store (yeah, we got more lighthouses) and there was a violin behind the counter… someday i’ll return…
coding update: playing around with divs and short-codes because as it turns out i want to organize my blog content and other pages in a very specific way. sighs. fieldnotes is getting its own shortcode so i can have the image and description side by side and CENTERED!!!
